I had breakfast and coffee at the hotel at 07:00 and then messed around until it was time to leave for the airport at 11:00. I had scheduled the free airport shuttle from the Addis Regency Hotel. It took about 40 minutes to get to the airport because of heavy traffic.
I had checked in online the night before and there were no lines for baggage drop-off or security so I breezed right through. In Nairobi and in Addis Ababa, you have to go through security twice, once to get into the airport and once at the gate or to get to the gates. They are strict about checking everything.
I had a piece of pizza for lunch to wash down my malaria pill and then caught the small twin-engine turbo-prop jet to Gondar. The flight was full but the de Havilland Dash 8-200 only holds about 50 people so we got on and off fairly quickly.
In Gondar, the free airport shuttle from the Haile Resort Gondar hotel picked three of us up and took us the 10 km or so to the hotel.
When booking the Gondar flight, I found out that if you enter the country on Ethiopian Airlines, then you will get a huge discount on domestic flights. Also, if a tour agency books your domestic flight as part of a tour, then it will also be much cheaper.
