We spent another full day soaking up the atmosphere in Florence, Italy. The highlight of the day was taking the local bus to the little village of Fiesole which is about 10 kms up in the mountains over Florence.
The panoramic views of the city and the cathedral from there are truly spectacular and it's well worth a visit. There is also a small Roman and Etruscan archeological site which includes a Roman amphitheater that is still used for concerts. The Etruscans were the ancient Italian civilization that lived in Tuscany before the Romans.
From the main square in Fiesole it's a short but steep walk up to the best viewpoint of Florence. Then it's another easy block up to the small San Francesco Monastery which has some interesting religious art and a peaceful atmosphere.
