Got up at 07:00 for breakfast at the hotel and then packed up and checked out. I walked across the street to the Hauptbahnhof and took the S train to the airport. It cost 5€ and only took about 15 minutes to get there.
As usual I got to the airport way too early and had a lot of time to kill after checking my rolly bag with Lufthansa. The flight was fast and smooth and we arrived in sunny Barcelona at about 13:00. We took the airport bus to Plaza Espana and from there took the metro to La Rambla and then to the hostal in El Raval.
In the afternoon, we walked to La Rambla and took in the sights. Then we went to Barrio Gótico (the Gothic Quarter, Barri Gòtic in Catalan) which is on the other side of La Rambla and is the oldest part of the city and has ruins from the original walled Roman city.
In the Gothic Quarter we went to some of the famous churches such as Basilica Santa Maria del Pi, the ancient Basilica Just i Pastor, and the Basilica Santa Maria del Mar in El Born.
