I checked out of the Kepler Hotel near the Nairobi airport at 11:30 and used an Uber to get to the airport. The main road near the hotel was one way going the wrong way so we had to backtrack and then turn around to get to Mombasa Road and the airport entrance.
The flight left close to on-time at 14:30 and it was smooth all the way to Addis Ababa. I was the first one to the immigration counter so I breezed right through. They didn't even ask for my Ethiopia E-visa which cost 50 USD online. I went to baggage claim to get my big backpack and found that the airport people had stolen my dirty flip-flops from the outer pocket. Luckily I had closed the main opening with a big zip-tie so they didn't get into it. Now I'm two for two for getting stuff stolen from my checked bags on Nairobi flights. It happened once in 1998 and now again in 2019.
It was a little rainy in Addis and the free hotel shuttle was there to pick me up. The airport is in the city but it still took about 30 minutes to get to the hotel because of the rush hour traffic.
I had a typical dish of injera and meat sauce for dinner at the Denver Boutique Hotel. I had to get used to eating with my hands (right hand only) since they don't provide silverware.
