How to get from Almaty to Bishkek

Traveling from Almaty, Kazakhstan to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan is very simple and only takes about half of a day.

In Almaty minibuses (Marshrutkas) and taxis to Bishkek leave from the Sayran Bus Station (sometimes written as Sairan), the long distance bus station.

Tickets to Bishkek are sold at the ticket windows (Kacca) to the right of the entrance and cost 1800 tenge. Buses leave when they are full from 08:00 to 20:00.

Taxis will ask for about 15000 to 18000 tenge per car.

Sayran is located on Tole Bi Street, Map Location: 43.244811, 76.858263 . City buses 16, 37, 45, and 65 among many others stop near there.

Almaty Bus Routes

The trip to the border takes about 3.5 hours and the bus makes one bathroom stop about halfway.

The border process is very easy, check out of Kazakhstan, walk to the other side with all luggage, and check in to Kyrgyzstan.

In Kyrgyzstan, you can wait for the bus to come across or you can take a taxi directly to a hotel for about 300 to 500 som per car because Bishkek is very close to the border.

The cross border buses only go to the main bus station which is several kilometers from the city center.
