It was raining in the morning as we left the studio apartment and walked the three blocks to the Barcelona Nord Bus Station (Estació del Nord) to catch our 11:30 bus to Zaragoza. I had bought the tickets at the station a few days earlier so we had the best seats in the front of the bus.
The trip took about three hours. You can also take the AVE high speed train from the Sants train station. It is a lot faster but about twice as expensive. We took the bus for that reason and the fact that the bus station was right down the street from where we were staying near El Arco del Triunfo.
In Zaragoza, we took a local bus from the bus station to the city center since it was about two kilometers. Our hotel was right on the edge of the old town and about a ten minute walk to the major tourist attractions.
In the afternoon, we took a long walk around the old town, had lunch at a vegan restaurant, and then went to the fabulous Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar and the Stone Bridge over the Ebro River. The Basilica is very impressive and is the second largest church in Spain after the Seville Cathedral and the 11th largest church in the world. Construction was started on this massive structure in 1680.
