The Hisor Fortress (may also be spelled 'Hissor' or 'Hissar') is a restored fortress about 30 km from Dushanbe and about 7 km from the village of Hisor. The best time to visit is on summer week-ends because a constant stream of lively marriage processions celebrate at the fort with live music and rowdy dancing.
How to get to Hisor Fortress from Dushanbe
Getting to the fortress by public transportation is currently a little more complicated because of the massive road construction project that has blocked Somoni Avenue between the center of Dushanbe and the area from where the marshrutkas and shared taxis depart for Hisor at Map Location: 38.581808, 68.721011 .
Formerly Bus 8 would go from Rudaki and turn west on Somoni Avenue to the taxi stop. Because of the construction the best option is to take a taxi to the departure area.
In Hisor, taxis charge around 10 to 12 somonis to go to the fortress, each way. They leave from the bus terminal area at Map Location: 38.524658, 68.556993 .
